This new family home in East Victoria Park responds to some very big questions that we need to be asking of our new suburban homes:

  • How does the design respond to context?
  • How will the home perform? and
  • How does it contribute to urban greening?

The home is designed for a family of four. It embraces family life and provides a wonderful connection from all living spaces out on to a rich, landscaped space for kids to play and flora and fauna to thrive.

On a challenging corner site, the design provides a sense of urban generosity, by removing fences and landscaping the verges with endemic planting and meandering gravel pathways. The predominantly single storey home wraps the block to create a private sanctuary within, whilst enabling a sense of connection and permeability to the neighbouring context of cafes, shops and homes.

Designed to Passive House standards, the home incorporates fundamental passive solar principles into its layout, ensuring spaces are both comfortable and responsive to their environment. These standards also deliver the added benefits of exceptional air quality and consistent thermal comfort throughout the year.
