New Medium Density Codes come into effect in April 2024

MDC Architects is eagerly awaiting the introduction of Western Australia’s new Medium Density Codes –in April 2024 – which will pave the way for more diverse housing and vibrant communities across Perth.

MDC Architects is enthusiastic about the introduction of the state’s new Medium Density Codes – part of the amended State Planning Policy 7.3 – which will become operational following gazettal on 10 April 2024.

The Codes were originally due to come into effect in September 2023, but their introduction was deferred by the Housing Minister John Carey, and Matt Delroy Carr joined other architects to lobby for their reinstatement.

The new codes will make it easier for our clients to provide different types of housing – such as grouped dwellings and multiple dwellings – on various lot sizes, as defined by the R-Codes.

“These new codes will streamline the way that we as architects help our clients to navigate the planning system, so that together we can deliver more diverse and appealing housing for Perth residents. They provide new options and better liveability in comparison with a lot of the current housing product in the market currently.”
